Our Engineering Manager and expert in Covid-19 modular solutions, Mario Yañez, tells us how methods and protocols could be improved for the next election.
A tremendous challenge brings next October 25 where, in the current context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 National Plebiscite will be held, which will give the possibility of approving or rejecting the drafting of a New Constitution, in addition to the body in charge to write it.
Although the Ministry of Health -with the technical opinion of other organizations- has released a “Safer National Plebiscite 2020” Health Protocol, it is still possible to redouble some security measures. This is how Mario Yáñez, our engineering manager at Tecno Fast, explains to us, with extensive experience in the rental, sale, manufacture and assembly of spaces with high technology and design.
enclosures modular with cross ventilation
in In the month of September, the precincts for voting were already set, where one of the main rules is physical distancing. As these are closed places, where “it will not be possible to ventilate classrooms, it would be ideal to be able to use spaces that have cross ventilation, as is the case of Tecno’s TOP 1 modules Fast, which have 4 windows on opposite walls”, says Yáñez.
These infrastructures, mentioned by the expert, are modules with a bathroom and have appropriate measures to take up little space on the ground, and to work or live comfortably in it, even in combination with other modular structures. In fact, since the first case of Covid-19 was detected in Chile, many companies have had to modify their facilities and have used this type of facility.
areas demarcated
other An important measure, according to our expert, will be to have good demarcated waiting areas and limit distances in queues of the polling places. Tecno Fast, for example, has fixed separation barriers for these purposes. “For now I know recommends the use of trails separated by 1.5 meters and guide bars to demarcate the rows. It is cheaper and what matters is the detachment,” he says.
curtains transparent PVC sanitary
also adds that the interior of the voting rooms would be ideal to have with transparent PVC sanitary curtains, which are washable, or acrylic. “They are probably not used this time because they have a high cost”, he adds.

surfaces raincoats
on the material of the tables, the expert affirms that they must be of material washable and sanitizable. That is, from impermeable surfaces, such as plastic, vinyl or acrylic. “There are some tables that have wooden surfaces and in that case they must be covered with acrylic,” he says.
The same with respect to the box where the votes are deposited. “The material should be transparent acrylic that can be sanitized with liquid chlorine, since cardboard can retain the virus for hours. Many people would be infected just by approaching to cast their vote, ”he concludes.
